Frequently asked questions

The questions below come from conversations with clients, families, and curious first-time visitors. They are grouped by topic. If you are looking for something specific, use the links below to find it fast. If your question is not here, the contact page is the next best step, and I will get back to you directly.

About the work itself

A conversation with the people you have loved and lost. They arrive in their fully evolved form: clear, loving, no longer carrying what they carried in life. What arrives is often not what you came asking for, and that tends to be the part that moves people. The Mediumship page describes a session in full.
A session, or an ongoing practice, that sets the ancestor dimension aside and opens the field to your own higher self. Instead of connecting you with someone who has passed, it opens to the voice underneath the loop, the knowing you have been talking yourself out of. The Truth Readings page describes how the two differ.
Non-medical, spiritual, and energetic support for the dying person and the family around them. I work in the space between a terminal diagnosis and active dying, at the bedside, and in the period after. No nursing, no clinical care. Presence, Reiki when it serves, and a space where the truth of what is happening can be said out loud. The Death Doula page covers both streams of the work.
Hands-on energetic work I do in your actual home, room by room, twice. Once to clear what is heavy, and once to bring back the love and the joy that also happened there. It usually arises after a reading, or when a family has to leave a home for the last time. The Space Clearing page has the detail.
Four doorways into the same room. The work underneath all of them is helping people move through the unfamiliar territory of grief, ending, and becoming. The doors differ because the situations do. The Services Overview lays them out side by side.
No, and plenty of people who sit down with me are not sure they believe anything at all. That is a fine place to start. The work either lands as real and useful or it does not, and you will be the judge.
No. There is no tradition here you have to adopt and no worldview you have to convert to. The work sits comfortably alongside most faith traditions, and alongside none. Many of my clients hold a strong faith and do this too.

Who tends to come

Most of my clients are accomplished, capable, self-sufficient adults who have followed a traditional path and built capable lives, and who are now standing at a threshold the traditional path cannot help them cross. They are usually 35 and older, often midlife or beyond, often professional. They are people who have read the books, done the therapy, asked the right questions, and run into something competence and intelligence were not built to solve.

No. Many of my clients are not particularly spiritual when they first reach out. They are open enough to consider that there might be more, but they are not in the costume and not looking for a tradition. If you want substance over aesthetic, you are likely a good fit.

Probably yes. Skepticism is reasonable, and I would much rather work with someone honest about theirs than someone performing belief. What I am not the right person for is testing. I do not run tests and I do not lead with proof. People are regularly startled by what arrives, and they hear things I had no way of knowing, but that is what the work produces rather than something I will demonstrate on request. If you can sit in the room with your skepticism intact and let the work happen on its own terms, you are welcome exactly as you are.
Less often than people expect. There is grief in this work and I am not going to pretend otherwise, but there is usually also relief, and frequently laughter. A room that can hold both is a room where more can actually happen. People are often surprised by how much lighter they feel walking out than walking in.
Probably not the right first call if you are in an active mental health crisis, fresh acute trauma, or the immediate aftermath of suicide loss. Those call for different specialists, and stability comes first. I do not work with dying children; that belongs to pediatric palliative care specialists. And the work does not serve someone who wants to sit back and have information delivered at them, because a session is a conversation and it works because both people are in it. The service pages name the specific filters for each kind of work.

No. A meaningful portion of my mediumship work is with people whose loss happened ten, twenty, forty years ago. Grief does not run out. Neither does the possibility of contact.

Possibly. For very fresh, acute grief, especially the loss of a child or a sudden traumatic loss, a private session is usually not the right first call. A therapist trained in acute grief or a hospice bereavement counselor usually is. This work can serve you later. If you are not sure, schedule a conversation and we will talk it through.

About sessions

Individual sessions are 60 minutes. We close when the work has found its natural resting place, which usually coincides with the hour but does not always.

We sit together, often on the floor, often with crystals to map what is happening between people, living and otherwise. I describe what comes through: a presence, a quality, a message, a memory. You recognize what is yours. You can ask questions, sit with what comes, cry, laugh, or fall silent. There is no right way to be in the room. The Mediumship page and the Truth Readings page describe the specific shape of each kind of session.

No. You do not need to bring a list of names, a list of questions, or a polished version of what you want to talk about. You just need to arrive willing to be in the room.

Yes. Remote sessions happen by video and work just as well. The people who come through, and the higher self that comes through in Truth Readings, are not bounded by geography.

Yes, if you would like to. Many clients record their sessions and listen back later. The recording is yours; I do not keep a copy.

Individual sessions are one-on-one. If you would like to share a session with a family member (a sibling, a parent, an adult child), we can structure that as a joint session. Reach out and we will arrange it.

It varies widely. Some people come once and the session does its work. Some come at thresholds (anniversaries, new chapters, new questions). Some do Truth Readings as an ongoing practice over months. There is no required cadence. I do not push for repeat bookings.

In 14 years and roughly 5,000 sessions, this has been extraordinarily rare. The people who need to be in the room tend to be in the room. If something unusual happens and the session does not land, we will talk about it honestly and figure out the right next step together.

About death doula support

As quickly as the situation requires. If you write and the situation is time-sensitive, say so in your message. I read these myself and prioritize accordingly. You can also call 781-405-4086.

Yes, always. Hospice handles the medical and clinical side. I handle the spiritual, energetic, and presence side. The two are complementary, and most of my families have both. If hospice is not yet in place, that is usually the right first call, and I can work alongside them once they are.

Yes. Bedside presence is a core part of the work. I am based on the North Shore of Massachusetts and travel locally throughout the region. For families farther out, we will talk about what is possible.

Some of it can. The family-side conversations and the support in the post-death period can happen remotely. Bedside presence and in-person Reiki are in-person. Most engagements end up being a mix.

No. That work belongs to pediatric palliative care specialists who are trained for it and who will serve your family far better than I could. If this is your situation, please look for a pediatric palliative care doula or a hospice with a pediatric specialty. I will gladly help with a referral if you reach out.

If you would like to continue working with me into the bereavement period, we can. Many families do. For some, mediumship sessions become part of that arc when the time is right.

No. Some families first contact me in the month after a funeral, once everyone has gone home and the grief is arriving in its real form. That is a real starting point, not a missed one.

The work is too important to walk into cold. The right shape of support depends on where you are in the arc, and that has to be talked through before either of us commits. There is no booking link for death doula work for this reason.

About live events

A live event is a roomful of people, an opening conversation, often a Q and A, and a series of live mediumship demonstrations. I describe what comes through, and the messages land for the people they are for. The Group Events page describes the arc of an evening in full.

Maybe. Many people do. I cannot promise. The messages arrive on their own terms, and I will not invent or force a reading for someone in the room simply because they came hoping for one. If receiving your own message is the specific thing you need, a private session is the right format.

Yes. Many attendees come specifically to witness the work without expecting a personal reading, and many describe witnessing a reading for someone else as one of the most powerful parts of the evening.

No. The room is held privately for the people in it, and that privacy is part of why the work can happen there.

On the events page. Dates, locations, formats, and ticket links are listed there. New events are added as they are scheduled.

Events are scheduled in seasons rather than continuously, and there is occasionally a stretch without one on the books. Join the newsletter to be notified when the next event is announced, or reach out if you would like to discuss private work in the meantime.

Practical and logistical

Based on the North Shore of Massachusetts, in the Beverly and Salem area. In-person sessions and bedside visits happen across the region. Remote sessions happen by video.

Mediumship: $200 for 60 minutes. Truth Readings: a Clarity Session is $150, and the Practice is ten sessions for $1500. Group events: a Small Group you host is $100 per person, a Large Group is $50 per person. Space clearing: $200 up to about three bedrooms, $300 for a larger home. Death doula: $100 to $200 an hour, structured individually after the first conversation. I am transparent about fees before either of us commits to anything.

Payment details are sent with your booking confirmation. Most clients pay by credit card; other arrangements can be made if needed.

For death doula work and longer-arc engagements, the structure is individual, and we can talk about what is workable for your situation in the first conversation. For individual sessions, the fee is the fee. If cost is a barrier, reach out and we will figure out what is possible.

No. This work is not medical and therefore is not covered by insurance.

Cancellations more than 48 hours in advance can be rescheduled at no cost. Cancellations inside 48 hours may be subject to a fee, depending on the situation. Emergencies are handled with care; just reach out.

Yes. What happens in a session stays in the room. I do not share client names, situations, or details with anyone, and the stories I draw on in writing and teaching are either composite, sufficiently disguised, or used with explicit permission.

For most messages, within a few business days. For time-sensitive situations, especially around a death or terminal diagnosis, faster. I read these myself.

Most venues are accessible, and remote sessions work for clients who cannot travel. If accessibility is a specific question for you, write to me before booking and I will confirm the specifics.

About Katie

I am a medium, a Reiki Master, an IET (Integrated Energy Therapy) Master, and an IAPCC Certified Death Doula. Before this work, I ran my own CFO and accounting practice. The About page describes how I came to this work.

14 years. Roughly 5,000 clients over that time, across individual sessions, group readings, and bedside work.

No. I am not a licensed therapist, and the work I do is not a substitute for therapy. Many of my clients work with a therapist alongside this work; the two are complementary, not interchangeable. If you are in acute mental health distress, please prioritize a therapist or crisis support resource first.

There is nothing you can bring into the room that will surprise me. You do not need the right words, or the right beliefs, or any idea what you think about mediumship. I will not perform, and I will not be solemn at you. If something is funny, we laugh.

I host a Mediumship practice circle twice a month. Sign up for the next one.

Yes. Many clients work with me over years, particularly for Truth Readings, which can be done as a sustained practice through the Practice, a package of ten sessions. Mediumship work tends to be more episodic, but some clients return at thresholds throughout their lives.

The questions on this page come from the patterns of 14 years of incoming messages. They are not exhaustive. If you have a question that the page did not answer, write to me directly and I will respond personally.
If you are ready to begin, the booking and conversation paths are there too.
